Okta Email Messages Arrive in Spam or Junk Folders
Last Updated:
Overview
Okta email messages may end up in spam or junk folders because the email provider or filtering software blocks them. Allowing messages from the blocked sender address and checking spam or junk folders resolves the issue.
The user does not receive the expected email authentication or password reset message in their inbox and may find it in a spam or junk folder.
Applies To
- Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
- Okta Classic Engine
- Multi-factor Authentication
- Email factor
- Password Reset
Cause
The email provider uses filtering software with rules that block the email. Okta states in Email Authentication (MFA) that email messages may be delivered to the user's spam or junk folder.
Solution
How is the email delivery issue resolved?
These steps help route Okta email messages away from spam or junk folders and into the inbox.
- Check the spam or junk folder for the expected Okta email message.
- Identify the blocked sender email address that Okta uses for the message.
- Add a rule in the email provider or filtering software to allow messages from that sender address.
- If an information technology administrator manages the filtering software, ask that administrator to add the allow rule for the blocked sender address.
- Confirm that the next Okta email message arrives in the inbox.
