Okta Email Customization When Default and Custom Brands Are Active

Administration
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine

Overview

Administrators may become confused about which brand's email templates Okta delivers when multiple brands are active. When both a custom brand and the default brand are active in an Okta environment, Okta delivers email templates based on the domain used during the action.

Applies To

  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • Okta Classic Engine
  • Brands
  • Okta Emails
  • Customizations

Solution

How does Okta determine which email template to deliver?

Okta delivers emails based on the domain used when performing the action associated with that particular email. Okta uses the following domain criteria to determine the email sender and template.

  • If the user logs in at <subdomain>.okta.com (the default Okta brand), Okta sends all emails from the generic Okta sender using standard templates.
  • If the user logs in at <customdomain>.company.com (the custom brand), Okta sends all emails from the custom sender using customized templates.
