Okta Provisioning Fails With Errors Reported by Remote Server
Last Updated:
Overview
During Okta provisioning events, the downstream application server rejects the request and returns a bad request error. To resolve this issue, investigate the application logs on the remote server to determine the cause of the rejection. The Okta System Log displays the following error message during user creation, profile pushes, group push events, or other similar Okta provisioning events:
Error while creating user <user> Bad Request. Errors reported by remote server.
Applies To
- Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
- Okta Classic Engine
- Okta Integration Network (OIN)
- System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) Applications
- Provisioning
Cause
The downstream application server returns the error, not Okta. Okta performs the provisioning job as expected, but the remote application rejects the request and sends the bad request error message back.
Solution
What steps resolve the remote server error?
Investigate the application logs on the remote server and confirm the Okta System Log contains no other related errors to resolve the bad request error.
- Investigate the application logs on the remote server to determine the cause of the bad request error. This action may require assistance from the application support team or application administrator.
- Confirm the Okta System Log contains no other related errors, such as incorrectly mapped attributes, that contribute to the issue. This confirmation ensures that the issue originates directly from the application side.
